Waste management

As a logistics service provider in fashion, we handle waste generated at various stages of the fulfilment process, especially during the unpacking and repacking of products for storage and shipment. Our goal is to continuously reduce waste by investing in warehouse technologies, mechanisation, efficient carton packaging techniques, optimising orders, and reducing the number of returns. This approach not only enhances productivity but also boosts efficiency and customer satisfaction. The waste we do generate is carefully recycled for reuse.

Electric last-mile distribution

We invest in electric last-mile distribution with selected partners. The growth of e-commerce continues to increase the number of shipped and returned packages. In our selection process for last-mile carriers, we critically assess their ability to reduce CO2 emissions per package. Modexpress also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions by avoiding expedited air shipments in certain regions and offering flexibility in inventory management when demand changes.

Energy consumption

With over 200,000 m² of warehouse space, Modexpress consumes significant energy for lighting, automation, handling equipment, heating, and computer use. We critically evaluate energy consumption per square metre, per shipment, and per return. By monitoring usage and investing in initiatives like replacing standard lighting with LED lighting, the installation of solar panels, energy-efficient equipment, and motion sensors, we manage our total energy consumption and identify further optimisation and savings opportunities. Additionally, we use green energy and encourage our employees to act in an energy-conscious manner.

Recycling and sustainable packaging

We use recyclable materials in our packaging, with the aim of reducing waste. We pay attention to both the types of materials we use and their quantities. We consume less cardboard through automated right-sizing solutions, reusing packaging, and recycling. Additionally, we are working towards 100% plastic-free solutions for our customers. We actively collect cans and PET bottles from all our locations. The deposit money is donated annually to a charitable cause.

Circularity

At Modexpress, we give products a second life. Items that can no longer be sold as new are cleaned, repaired, and made ready for resale. By extending the lifespan of clothing and other products, we contribute to more sustainable resource use. As a fashion expert, we provide our clients with a range of circular solutions, helping to reduce the percentage of unsellable goods and promote an environmentally friendly approach.

Our employees

At Modexpress, our employees are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that satisfied, well-trained, and engaged employees contribute to our success. We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels heard, supported, and safe. Below are some of the initiatives through which we support our employees.

Learning opportunities

Modexpress invests in the growth and development of its employees by offering study opportunities. These can be job-specific, designed to help individuals progress into new roles, or to gain fresh knowledge. We also provide accredited BBL and BOL programmes in logistics and commercial fields, along with internships and graduation projects. These opportunities allow students to develop their skills in a professional environment.

Employee association

Our enthusiastic employee association plays a vital role in fostering connections among colleagues. All employees are automatic members, and the association organises annual activities such as the summer staff party, participation in Helmond’s ‘Drakenbootrace’, a St. Nicholas celebration for children and grandchildren, and a festive Christmas gathering. These events strengthen the sense of community and bring joy to our team.

Employee representation

Through our employee representation group, employees have a voice in decision-making processes. The group collaborates with management, providing advice on various topics. This ensures that employees’ concerns are heard and considered in decisions that affect them.

Bicycle scheme

Modexpress encourages employees to commute sustainably by offering a tax-friendly bicycle scheme. This initiative promotes environmentally friendly travel while supporting health and well-being.

Workplace safety

Employee safety is a top priority at Modexpress. We have developed a new Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E) plan, complete with actions for improvement where necessary. Modexpress is also supported by an emergency response team to act quickly in critical situations. Additionally, employees can always approach one of our trusted confidants for professional and discreet support.

Dutch lessons

To help our international employees integrate and communicate effectively, Modexpress offers Dutch lessons, partially covering the costs. This initiative supports their personal and professional development.

Community involvement

At Modexpress, we believe in supporting our community and creating opportunities for people. Our initiatives are focused on social responsibility and supporting local organisations and charities.

People with distance to the labour market

Modexpress provides people with a distance to the labour market the chance to participate in the workforce. We work with Senzer, an organisation that supports employees with disabilities within our warehouses. Additionally, we offer employment to individuals with, for example, a WIA benefit, enabling them to re-enter the workforce within their abilities. Through these projects, we contribute to the local community and create opportunities for people who need extra support.

Internships and Modexpress as a learning company

We offer internships in close collaboration with educational institutions. Internships and graduation projects are an integral part of our organisation, allowing students to gain practical experience in a professional environment. We aim to support and train young talent for careers in logistics and commerce.

Sponsorship of SV Deurne

Modexpress is a proud sponsor of the local football club SV Deurne. Through this sponsorship, we contribute to the sporting development and activities of the club and support a healthy lifestyle within the local community.

Support for charities and local events

Modexpress donates the proceeds from deposit-return schemes every year. With more than 5,000 collected cans and bottles annually, this forms a significant amount. By allowing our employees to nominate a new charity each year, we support initiatives that are close to their hearts. We also support initiatives such as the Polish ‘The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity’ through an annual paid contribution, and we show our commitment to sporting initiatives by participating in for example the ‘Bedrijvenloop Lavans’ running event.
